gas dryer won't stop

I have a Kenmore 600 series gas dryer (model #110.77652600) that is approximately 5 years old. Recently the dryer has been running cycles, but the timer won't stop them. Putting it on a moisture setting, the dial does not move as the clothes dry. It will stay in the same position and have the dryer run for hours, if we let it. Same thing goes on the timer setting. If I set the dryer for 40 min, the dial will not turn, and will run for hours. Please let me know what you think is wrong, what part should be replaced, and how difficult of a project the replacement is. Any sources for directions on the replacement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Dan

PS - there does not appear to be any issues with the heating in the dryer. After running for several hours, the unit and clothes are warm.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

From your description if the timer will not advance in timed or auto dry cycles, you will most likely need to replace the timer. The diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have an ohm/volt meter and are confident in your technical abilities, please reply below and I will be happy to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.

Dan,

I am including the wiring diagram for your dryer in the images below. Timer switch O (grey to white/black) must close to run the timer motor.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
